Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane.

One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.

Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them —Set— has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe - a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.

REVIEW:

The story starts with Carter and Sadie Kane, who find out their family is descended from Egyptian Pharaophs, making them the most ancient egyptian family ever. They find out their father was trying to summon Egyptian Gods and by accident released 5 gods including the evil Set, God of Storms and Chaos. Worse they find out that they are hosting Gods themselves, they must unite and fight the evil Set while trying to find a way to prevent the end of the world without getting anybody else killed. But more is to come, Sadie along with Isis and Carter with Horus, must fight until the end and learn how to train other godlings to defeat the evil apophis, the only thing that could truly destroy the egyptian civilization along with the world.

I loved this book! I am a huge Percy Jackson fan and when I found out Rick had written similar books but dealing with Egyptian mythology I knew I was going to have a blast. The book started great, I have always been a fan of Egyptian mythology and when Rick combined Egyptian and Greek mythology at times I was so happy! I really enjoyed the story and the fact that humans could have gods and goddesses in them to give them power. That was great! Many times the book made me laugh out loud and I truly LOVED bast! I LOVE cats and she is just amazing! Overall an EXCELLENT read. Ready for the next book!! :
