Shokugeki No Soma (Food Wars) - Vol. #16-20

 

  


Hello all! 

Today, we'll continue on with the next round of the Food Wars! series! I am very excited because things got GOOD!!

For starters, Soma and his friends at Totsuki are in quite a pickle! Erina-sama's father, Azami, has revealed himself to be the new director of the institution, not to mention the fact that his new "club" called Central is now the governing body of the school (the elite ten are basically all on Central's side). 

This introduction to Azami's central focuses on his control over Erina and we get flashbacks from her childhood and the mental abuse he caused her by forcing her to be like him. Erina just wants to be free from the reins of her father and now he's back in her life to regain control over her and her God Tongue. 

Naturally, Soma and his friends won't let this happen and they basically provide refuge for her at their Polar Star dormitory. I LOVE this section because we get to see Erina among the polar star gang acting like them and being more liberating. It is an absolute delight and one realizes that she's really one of them but has been living under the shadow of her controlling father. 

Azami's goal is to get rid of creativity at Totsuki and forcing everyone to do things his specific way. He's the ultimate control freak just like Christian Grey but without the kinky stuff. He basically puts him to shame with his strictness. 

Unsurprisingly, he tries to get rid of ALL the clubs at the school so that Central is the only remaining option. This occurs by forcing people to do Shokugeki and since the Elite Ten are the best....the clubs end up losing. Naturally, Soma and his friends go against Central and win their shokugekis in order to protect Polar Star dormitory and Erina. This is such an enjoyable and delicious fight as Azami's face in the end is absolutely priceless. 

Lastly, Soma becomes the first seat's assistant during a class (the professor refused to accept Central) and performs up to par. The first seat actually has the nerve to ask Soma to join Central and be his assistant! Of course, Soma cannot give up being himself and refuses. 

Overall, the manga is getting SO good and exciting as Soma continues to fight Central and Azami. And in the process starts seeing Erina in a different way *wink wink* to the point that Erina blushes around him!
