The Perks of being a Wallflower

Hello!

Today, we have my favorite novel so far and one I read often because of how alike the character and I are!

We start off with Charlie, a young freshman in high school who is lonely and melancholically reflecting on the new step in his life. Charlie writes letters to someone detailing how he is, I always felt he did this to not feel as lonely.

Charlie takes many pills and had a breakdown the previous year and is finally getting back together. Afraid and excited for high school, Charlie finds himself observing everyone around him while he longingly reflects on his insecurities and troubles. He meets a group of friends who teach him to live in the moment and to let go. However, Charlie has a secret. And it is a secret even he has kept hidden inside of him.

Throughout the storyline, he recalls his Aunt's car accident over and over again but cannot figure out why he feels the way he feels. He remembers what led him to breakdown during a moment of intimacy and learns that he has not let go of the past.

This book is about mental illnesses like anxiety, PTSD, depression and suicidal thoughts. It is beautifully written with in-depth analysis from the character and it makes the story so raw.
Charlie is a victim of his mental health and has to learn how to survive.
