Maze of Bones (39 Clues #1)

The first book of the 39 Clues series by Rick Riordan (and others). Oh man, this brings back so many memories. I decided to reread this series because there are sooooo many more books added to it (and constantly) and it is so worth it. Filled with adventure and history, not to mention a lot of drama and action, these books are a must read for everyone interested in history and action!

Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors ever and he does not disappoint yet again.

"Maze of Bones" starts off with introducing Amy and Dan Cahill, siblings who are left to their own hands after their grandmother Grace Cahill passes away from cancer. We learn quickly that these kids are special and in so much need of a true family, their parents having passed from a mysterious house fire when they were even younger.

These kids are practically forced into a challenge with their extended family, the Cahills. Learning that their family hides many secrets and has a significant impact in world history, Amy and Dan must figure out how to survive the challenge against relatives from all over the world who are richer, smarter and more powerful in every way.

The book starts off with a journey through Paris, France in order to locate the first clue out of 39 (such a random number). Having to deal with having no money, having a legal guardian who wants to control them and dealing with crazy relatives, Amy and Dan find themselves in the famous Parisian catacombs.

An excellent introduction to a crazy family who have no issues with murdering each other, the book serves the purpose of introducing the original Cahill siblings: Luke, Katherine, Thomas and Jane Cahill. Each sibling being responsible in forming their own branch of Lucian, Ekaterina, Tomas and Janus with their own strengths and talents.

Amy and Dan find themselves lost as always in this new revelation. But where do they belong? Strategic Lucian, smart Ekat, strong Tomas or artistic Janus?

Overall, this book is worth:
