Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Vol# 1-5)

Hello everyone!

Today we have a review of the first five volumes of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series! I am very excited because I've loved and read these books since I was younger.

Starting off, this is a review solely on the books and not on the movies!

The books are extremely entertaining and filled with humor and crazy shenanigans. Greg Heffley is a middle schooler with an older brother who is the devil incarnate (basically) and a younger brother who is just plain annoying. The first volume is the introduction to Greg's selfish and ambitious personality. He is all about obtaining popularity and being surrounded by fans and girls. However, things do not go as well as he wishes when his tame friend Rowley obtains the status in the popularity chain he thinks he deserves.

The second volume is all about Greg's relationship with his older brother Rodrick in terms of a secret event that happened over summer vacation. This book explores their sibling rivalry and its difficult relationship. Additionally, Greg and Rowley's at an ends again. Greg wants to be the cartoonist in the school but Rowley yet again obtains the success. Greg must learn that friendship is more important than status. At least for now.

The third volume is all about Greg's relationship with his stern father who makes him do all sorts of sports and "manly" activities as a way to get Greg to toughen up and become mature. However, things don't go well yet again. Greg must survive the challenges while evading the outcome of being enrolled to a local military school. This volume really focuses on Greg's self-preservation and his viewpoint of being "perfect". Not to mention that Greg has his eyes on a girl!

Summer vacation! The fourth volume adds a new family member: Sweetie the doggy. Dog Days revolves around Greg's plans of spending summer vacation indoors playing videogames. However, his Mother has other ideas and she causes a lot of issues with trying to keep the family together by doing activities and being outdoors. Who will win?

The Ugly Truth is one of my favorite books because it's all about Greg growing up, or trying to. Greg's Mother is off to college classes in order to stimulate her mind and Greg, Rodrick and Manny are stuck with trying to be responsible in the house with their Dad who is...well, not their Mom. Filled with funny adventures revolving many failed attempts at responsibility and chores, Greg must come to terms that growing up is not fun. And that is the ugly truth!

Overall, I give the first five volumes:
