The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (The Twilight Saga #3.5)

 

Hello, all!

I am alive! I am so sorry I have been absent for so long, it has been a super, ridiculously busy months. But I am slowly going to get back to reading and reviewing, I am still wanting to accomplish my goal of reading 200 books this year!

I read this book before my hiatus and I forgot to put a review on it so here it goes: 

We all know about Bree's brief appearance in "Eclipse". However, Stephanie Meyer provides us with a LOT of info on her life as a newborn vampire until her death at the hands of the Volturi. 

The book introduces Riley's newborn army and a sort of confusing setting for them as Riley has not told them very much. Basically, the newborn army (not called anything like that at first) is all about hunting daily, transforming new vampires and staying hidden and away from sunlight. 

That's right, Riley has been leading them to believe that the sunlight will kill them. This is one of the ways he keeps the coven in check and in "control". However, people are power-hungry and violent, and so a lot of newborns end up killing each other daily in fights. 

We are introduced to a young teenager named Bree who led a very forgettable life prior to being a newborn. However, she's a special one who tries to keep to herself and tries to understand their purpose in this new "life". She and another coven member hide undercover within the group as they do not trust Riley or the mysterious Victoria, the person really in charge. 

We all know Bree's ending, however, Stephanie does an excellent job in making the reader become interested in this character with such a small role. Bree figures out what is going on and how they are just being used for numbers in an army and she tries to run away. However, the loss of her close friend shakes her core and she decides to confront the truth and await inevitable death...again. 

This short novel is not short of surprising moments and an interesting story and I definitely recommend it.
