Burned (Burned #1)

Hello,

I am a huge fan of Ellen Hopkins' book series and this is a new series within the series that focuses on a new character, Pattyn.

Pattyn is a teenage Muslim girl who is incarcerated at home due to her abusive father and abused mother. Surrounded by many younger girl siblings as her father wants a boy, she is sent to her Aunt's house many miles away from home as punishment for falling for a guy.

However, this proves to be a blessing in disguise as she is away from the abuse of her father who drinks too much and hurts the family physically. Pattyn's Aunt is everything she wishes to be as she grows up, carefree and free to decide for herself. Pattyn's life changes when she meets Ethan, a neighbor who is perfect in every way and they fall in love.

However, their happiness is short lived as her father gets in the way of their happy ending. This story is about dealing with abuse and controlling parents. It is about healing and handling feeling enslaved. It is about seeking and tasting freedom and having your happy ending ripped away.

A truly hard read at the end, be warned!
